SEAN KELLY RELEASED!
28 July 2005
Late last night, prior to the disclosure of the IRA statement, Sean Kelly was released for prison. Sean, who was out of prison on license because of the Good Friday Agreement, was re-arrested due to undisclosed police intelligence.
Sean had been prominent in keeping the peace in North Belfast flashpoints, particularly during the marching season. Last year, he was credited with saving lives. Pressure had been mounting for his release.
PSNI officials gave no reason for his release or arrest. Was this a political arrest and Sean held hostage to the way the IRA statement went? Did they make a mistake?
The truth is that, in either case, there is no such thing as due process in the north of Ireland for nationalists.
